Having a mathematical and science school background, Ajay Kumar took up the Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in the field of Mechanical Engineering from Madhav Institute of Technology and Science (MITS) Gwalior MP India.After undergraduate professional degree program in Mechanical Engineering, he, later, studied Engineering Materials. Having been trained as an Engineer and gone through mechanical and materials laboratory research training, he graduated with a Master of Technology (M.Tech) degree in Materials Engineering from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal India and working in Advanced Materials Processing Research Institute (AMPRI) CSIR India.The exposure, he received over the past years to understand the advance materials manufacturing system, in general, gave him an insight with a strong practical & analytical perspective to further study the mechanical aspects of the metal matrix composite system. Therefore, after an engineering-based Bachelors, a research based Masters Degrees, he went on to pursue PhD in Department of Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore India. He worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, Washington State University (WSU), Pullman Washington USA for one year. He also worked as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the College of Engineering and Applied Science, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) USA.
His diligence nature and plenty of experience on the areas of metal composite development and characterisation of materials & processing thrive into new innovations. He has authored more than 30 journals paper and participated more than 40 national and international level conferences. His immense passion on materials science, metallurgy and research triggered him to start a startup named ACPLat IIT Tirupati India. ACPL is fond of serving the researchers with world class elucidations.
Scope
The Auto Composites Private Limited (ACPL) IIT Tirupati Technical Team focuses primarily on high strength, high toughness, reducing the mass of structural systems such as the body and chassis in light-duty vehicles (including passenger cars and light trucks). Mass reduction also enables improved vehicle efficiency regardless of the vehicle size or propulsion system employed. The ACPL mission is to identify technology gaps, establish research and development (R&D) targets, and develop roadmaps for materials and manufacturing technologies aimed at high-volume production of metal matrix composite sheets, structures, blocks, rods, and pipes.
The team’s technical scope encompasses advancements in design, joining, corrosion mitigation, crash energy management, predictive and computational tools, and component manufacturing processes to facilitate the widespread use of lightweight high strength high toughness composite materials. These include advanced high-strength metal matrix composites, and mixed material sub-systems to enable the Indian Manufacturing Drive to reach its goals.
